Student Main Campus Residence Permits
RS Permits Students who reside in UCSB main campus residence halls have three permit options:
  • RS2 is valid in 2 Parking. 2 Parking is within the quadrangle formed by Santa Rosa Hall, Anacapa Hall, Santa Cruz Hall and De La Guerra Dining Commons.
  • 22RS is valid on any level of 22 Parking, with a restriction as noted below.
  • RS38 is valid in 38 Parking near Harder Stadium.
RS permits are not interchangeable; a “RS38” permit, for example, does not necessarily entitle you to park in a lot or structure designated for “RS2” or “22RS” permits.

Quick access to topics below:
When & where else may I park?
From 7:30AM to 5PM Monday–Friday, the permit is valid for parking at the site designated by your permit. 22RS permit-holders, please observe that the permit is not valid during these hours in Coastal Access spaces or in the 26 spaces of Level 1 that are allocated to faculty/staff.

Parking is allowed at any time in time-restricted parking spaces, but only for the time designated. Such spaces are typically marked for 30-minute parking.

After 5PM and on weekends, the permit gives you more options. As with the Night & Weekend permit, you are allowed to park in lots and spaces allocated to visitors, students, faculty, and staff. Weekday restrictions no longer apply.

The permit is invalid at all times in these locations:
  • lots, areas, and spaces marked “At All Times” or where other restrictions apply — for example, reserved or metered spaces, or lots/spaces marked for vendors
  • off-campus student housing (residence halls, single-student and family student housing)
  • West Campus/Devereux (41, 42 and 45 Parking)

Am I eligible?
You are eligible for a RS permit as long as you reside in one of the UCSB main campus residence halls: Anacapa, Manzanita Village, San Miguel, San Nicolas, San Rafael, Santa Cruz or Santa Rosa. Should you move to a location other than these residence halls, you must return the permit immediately to Parking Services. Continued use of an invalid permit results in costly parking citations and revocation of campus parking privileges.

Permits for parking at off-campus residence hall Santa Catalina are issued by Housing & Residential Services. Please contact their office for rates and permit information.

How do I apply?
Apply for your permit online by clicking Buy your parking permit HERE .Upon submitting your application, you will then:
  1. Receive an email confirmation of your order. Contact Parking Services if you do not receive a confirmation. Failure to receive a confirmation most likely indicates that we do not have your correct email address.
  2. Receive an email (typically within two business days) advising you whether or not your order was approved, and how to go back online to complete the order.
  3. Receive instructions for printing a temporary permit. A long-term permit will be mailed to the address listed on your application.
Is renewal automatic?
Renewal is not automatic. To maintain parking privileges, log into your online account and apply for a new permit before the expiration date.

What are my price and payment options?
This table compares the cost of the three RS permits when purchased for a nine-month academic school year (Fall, Winter and Spring quarters).
Type Permit Parking Location Spaces Cost
RS2 2 Parking, within residence hall quadrangle 101 $675
22RS 22 Parking, on any level 202 $506
RS38 38 Parking, near Harder Stadium 475 $338

You may choose to pay by cash, debit/credit card, or check. Please be advised that the quantity of each permit type is limited. Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

A permit purchased during the school year is prorated and the appropriate fee charged for the remainder of the year.
